Austin Friars 1st VII vs  Austin Friars Sevens Tournament
On: Wednesday, 06 Mar 2019
Venue: at Home

The first match in the group section of the Austin Friars Sevens tournament on Wednesday was against Stonyhurst. We did not make a good start to the game and there were several communication break downs which did not help our standard of play. The final score was 4 - 0 to Stonyhurst. Another slow start against QEGS - we always seem to forget how dangerous they are. The game finished 2 - 2 with Isabel Wood and Claudia Whitaker scoring our goals.

Our final section game was against RGS Newcastle, and, knowing that they had beaten Stonyhurst, we decided to take a more defensive approach. The team worked tirelessly defending as one. Ellie Henderson made some magnificent saves which helped to keep the score down to 2- 0 to RGS.

Our placing in the section games meant that we were to play Cockermouth in the final for the Bowl. It was clear from the outset that Friars were the stronger team. Our first goal was scored by Lily from a short corner and the second goal came from Isabel Wood in open play. The game finished 2 - 0 to Friars meaning that we were the winners of the Bowl. Our player of the tournament was Lydia Cross for her continuous work rate.
