Match Report
Austin Friars Boys-U18A vs  Austin Friars Sevens Tournament
On: Wednesday, 06 Mar 2019
Venue: at Home

The 1st VII played in the Austin Friars Sevens tournament on Wednesday. The team went into the tournament full of confidence after their success at Kirkby Lonsdale last week.

The first match was a rematch against Kirkham GS, with whom we had drawn at Kirkby Lonsdale. We were very keen to let Kirkham feel at home so in the first half we let them sore three tries. There was nothing to be said at half time as the team knew what they needed to do to address this, and they duly responded, playing direct rugby to score two converted tries to come right back into the game. However we could not quite get in front and Kirkham won 15 - 12.

We finally got going after this and won our next three group games, dispatching Cockermouth, King's Priory and our local rivals QEGS. This put us second in the group and through to the plate competition. The journey to Carlisle Rugby Club was wet and cold and did not help preparation for the next two games.

We plumbed the reserves of our energy to beat Emmanuel College in the first game but had to play back to back to try and defeat a strong Ermysteads team in the final. Very tired legs allowed Ermysteads to build a convincing lead and despite the best efforts of the team we just could not break down a resolute defence and finished second over all in the plate.
